LEARN ABOUT OUR FOOD SYSTEM FROM THIS HOMESCHOOLED BOY

YESTERDAY'S HARVEST

Our children AND our food system determine our future. This statement is very serious and is KEY to the survival of our freedoms.Let's give our children real purpose in life and teach them things that will provide them with the skills of self reliance. Our current school system is training the children (workforce) to be dependant on a system that wants to control them. Let's demand and develope more educational programs for children, which teach respect for nature but that also teaches self reliance. We are all too compartmentalized and dependant on the system. We need a broader range of skills. We are led to believe that the yuppie lifestyle is the ultimate goal of life. What does a yuppie lifestyle really accomplish in the end? Both parents have to work to support a larger house than what they need. Most time spent with their children is frantic and rushed. Kids are transported from one "arranged and structured" activity to another. There is no time left for them to learn their parent's values or to accomplish anything meaningful....such as gardening and foraging. They often sense little meaning in their lives.

Many people would respond to me by saying...well...we don't need to do all of this hard labor anymore. We have commerce and technology to take care of us. Well....if one takes a good look around they will see that our food system is beginning to collapse. The overworked and contaminated soil on the factory farms is now stripped of most of the nutrients which support life. The perfect looking vegetables we buy in the store are bred and fertilized to look perfect and beautiful...but they are only a shadow or a plastic replica of real food which should be high in vitamins and minerals. Teach your children and grandchildren about the good things in life. Show them how much they are needed. Involve them in providing food for your family and even for the poor. Turn your yards, balconies and decks into beautiful examples of nature's bounty which will inspire and motivate others to do the same. Watch the video below and see the enthusiasm that young people are capable of...if they see a real reason and purpose to their lives.

The following book looks kind of special. I haven't read it personally but it has good reviews and I am thinking of buying it as an aid in teaching my grandchild about gardening...when he gets a bit older. He is only 4 months :-)  "ROOTS, SHOOTS, BUCKETS AND BOOTS: GARDENING TOGETHER WITH CHILDREN

  1. The sad thing is that the corporate USA would consider him a domestic terrorist.
