These are some eggplants that I picked from my garden this afternoon. As you can see there are four different varieties. Years ago when I first started a garden and tried to grow eggplants...the black flea beetle bugs got them and they didn't make it so I didn't try again till years later. The past two years I have had great luck with them. I find that the better the soil and the more you fertilize them with a booster ...such as a seaweed emulsion...that they are more robust and resist disease.
I also used to think that eggplants were only good to use for eggplant parmesan but am finding many new ways of using them. I have substituted them for the broccoli in my cheesy brown rice casserole http://tinyurl.com/3x3ddry and found that it worked very well. I also slice the eggplants and layer them with tomatoes and or summer squash, add some herbs, italian dressing and grated cheese for a perfect side dish.
Tomorrow I am going to try drying them in my Nesco American Harvest FD-1010 Gardenmaster Food Dehydrator to use this winter in soups, stews and casseroles.
I love trying the different heirloom vegetables, planting the seeds, watching them grow, marvelling at their rich colors and varied shapes. I also enjoy preserving them and trying my hand at different recipes. If you have any fairly simple eggplant recipes, that you'd like to share.....click on the comment button and post if you'd like.

SUGAR AND STARCH And EVERYTHING NOT NICE
We are told over and over not to eat saturated fats when it is the high sugar and starch diet that appears to be causing untold suffering in many different forms. These forms may include heart disease, mood problems, psychiatric disorders, diabetes and much more. Connie Bennett wrote the book Sugar Shock!: How Sweets and Simple Carbs Can Derail Your Life-- and How YouCan Get Back on Track and she includes a comprehensive list of her symptoms.......which ALL went away within weeks of cutting out sugar and high carb foods. If you have a debilitating chronic illness OR just a few bothersome symtptoms, you may want to try the low carb approach. Please watch the informative video below the symptom list.
Here are Connie's symptoms

EVIDENTLY POLYUNSATURATED FATS ARE THE REAL DANGER
FROM NEXUS MAGAZINE
http://www.nexusmagazine.com/articles/oilingamerica.2.html
The OILING of AMERICA
Part 2 of 2
Modern-day diets high in hydrogenated vegetable oils instead of traditional animal fats are implicated in causing a significant increase in heart disease and cancer.
Early in 1985, the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB) heard more testimony on the trans fat issue. Enig alone represented the alarmist point of view, while Hunter and Applewhite of the ISEO and Ronald Simpson, then with the National Association of Margarine Manufacturers, assured the panel that trans fats in the food supply posed no danger. Enig reported on University of Maryland research that delineated the differences in small amounts of naturally occurring trans fats in butter, which do not inhibit enzyme function at the cellular level, and man-made trans fats in margarines and vegetable shortenings, which do. She also noted a 1981 feeding trial in which swine fed trans fatty acids developed higher parameters for heart disease than those fed saturated fats, especially when trans fatty acids were combined with added polyunsaturates.24 Her testimony was omitted from the final report, although her name in the bibliography created the impression that her research supported the FASEB whitewash.25
Excess consumption of vegetable oils is especially damaging to the reproductive organs and the lungs - both of which are sites for huge increases in cancer in Americans. In test animals, diets high in polyunsaturates from vegetable oils inhibit the ability to learn, especially under conditions of stress; they are toxic to the liver; they compromise the integrity of the immune system; they depress the mental and physical growth of infants; they increase levels of uric acid in the blood; they cause abnormal fatty acid profiles in the adipose tissues; they have been linked to mental decline and chromosomal damage; and they accelerate ageing.
Excess consumption of polyunsaturates is associated with increasing rates of cancer, heart disease and weight gain. The excessive use of commercial vegetable oils interferes with the production of prostaglandins, leading to an array of complaints ranging from autoimmune disease to premenstrual syndrome (PMS). Disruption of prostaglandin production leads to an increased tendency to form blood clots, and hence to myocardial infarction - which has reached epidemic levels in the US.41
Vegetable oils are more toxic when heated. One study reported that polyunsaturates turn to varnish in the intestines. A study by a plastic surgeon found that women who consumed mostly vegetable oils had far more wrinkles than those who used traditional animal fats. A 1994 study published in the Lancet showed that almost three-quarters of the fat in artery clogs is unsaturated. The 'artery-clogging' fats are not animal fats but vegetable oils.42
Foods containing trans fat sell because the American public is afraid of the alternative: saturated fats found in tallow, lard, butter, palm oil and coconut oil - fats traditionally used for frying and baking. Yet the scientific literature delineates a number of vital roles for dietary saturated fats: they enhance the immune system,54 are necessary for healthy bones,55 provide energy and structural integrity to the cells,56 protect the liver,57 and enhance the body's use of essential fatty acids.58 Stearic acid, found in beef tallow and butter, has cholesterol-lowering properties and is a preferred food for the heart.59 As saturated fats are stable, they do not become rancid easily, they do not call upon the body's reserves of antioxidants, they do not initiate cancer, and they do not irritate the artery walls.
Your body makes saturated fats, and your body makes cholesterol - about 2,000 mg per day. In general, cholesterol that the average American absorbs from food amounts to about 100 mg per day. So, in theory, even reducing animal foods to zero will result in only a five per cent decrease in the total amount of cholesterol available to the blood and tissues. In practice, such a diet is likely to deprive the body of the substrates it needs to manufacture enough of this vital substance.
Cholesterol, like saturated fats, stands unfairly accused. It acts as a precursor to vital corticosteroids (hormones that help us deal with stress and protect the body against heart disease and cancer) and to the sex hormones like androgen, testosterone, oestrogen and progesterone. It is a precursor to vitamin D, a very important fat-soluble vitamin needed for healthy bones and nervous system, proper growth, mineral metabolism, muscle tone, insulin production, reproduction and immune system function. And it is the precursor to bile salts which are vital for digestion and assimilation of fats in the diet.
Recent research shows that cholesterol acts as an antioxidant.60 This is the likely explanation for the fact that cholesterol levels go up with age. As an antioxidant, cholesterol protects us against free-radical damage that leads to heart disease and cancer. Cholesterol is the body's repair substance, manufactured in large amounts when the arteries are irritated or weak. Blaming heart disease on high serum cholesterol levels is like blaming firemen, who have come to put out a fire, for starting the blaze.
Cholesterol is needed for proper function of serotonin receptors in the brain.61 Serotonin is the body's natural 'feel-good' chemical. This explains why low cholesterol levels have been linked to aggressive and violent behaviour, depression and suicidal tendencies. Mother's milk is particularly rich in cholesterol and contains a special enzyme that helps the baby utilise this nutrient. Babies and children need cholesterol-rich foods throughout their growing years to ensure proper development of the brain and nervous system. Dietary cholesterol plays an important role in maintaining the health of the intestinal wall,62 which is why low-cholesterol vegetarian diets can lead to leaky gut syndrome and other intestinal disorders.
Animal foods containing saturated fat and cholesterol provide vital nutrients necessary for growth, energy and protection from degenerative disease. Like sex, animal fats are necessary for reproduction. Humans are drawn to both by powerful instincts. Suppression of natural appetites leads to weird nocturnal habits, fantasies, fetishes, bingeing and splurging. Animal fats are nutritious and satisfying and they taste good.

THIS IS MADNESS: LIPITOR FOR KIDS?
Please check out the other articles on this blog that speak to the cholesterol scam...to understand why cholesterol drugs for kids OR adults ...is a bad idea
Children need cholesterol from healthy animal fats that are from properly raised animals on pasture. Cholesterol is a required substance for healthy brain growth and development. The real suspect in obesity is a high carb diet laden with food additives and highly processed vegetable oils.Often obesity and high cholesterol in children (what they TERM high cholesterol may not even be a bad thing) is said to run in families and that its genetic. I don't doubt that it runs in families but is this due to inherited genetics or family food habits? It appears the drug companies keep lowering the number it takes to qualify for "high cholesterol". Please read more at the link above so we can raise healthy children on traditional foods. The children are our future. God help us to see the Truth before its too late. We need more research to discover whether or not low blood cholesterol is dumbing down the population. There is no dispute that we need to eat healthier.....but this should NOT include eliminating nature's most dense sources of nutrients....animal proteins and fats. Because cholesterol is so important for brain function AND immune function....it leads one to wonder why they are trying so hard to lower it...with diet and drugs.

Pfizer “Chewable” Lipitor Approved by EU For Treating Children 10 Years Old and Up
Whether your knew it or not, Lipitor has been approved for use with children for a number of years here in the US as well. Lipitor is due to come off patent at the end of 2011 and it appears we are seeing some interesting marketing here to try to ensure the blockbuster drug’s continued use. What’s coming next an inhaled version of the drug or maybe chewing gum?
Part of the reason for the chewable version goes back to allowing the drug company to get an additional 6 months of patent protection if they test with children, so no big surprise here with the reasoning as to why children may have been included. I wonder myself how many children are actually taking Lipitor? BD
TRENTON, N.J. – The European Union has approved a new chewable form of cholesterol blockbuster Lipitor for children 10 and up with high levels of bad cholesterol and triglycerides, a type of blood fat, Pfizer said Tuesday.
The approval includes children whose high blood fats are due to an inherited disease that causes extremely high cholesterol levels, familial hypercholesterolemia.
New York-based Pfizer Inc. won U.S. approval for Lipitor use in children 10 to 17 with that condition in 2002.
Until recently, cholesterol drugs have been primarily taken by adults with heart disease, but their use has expanded to younger patients as more obese, sedentary teenagers and adolescents develop heart disease and diabetes.

TAKING OUR FOOD RIGHTS AWAY IN THE NAME OF SAFETY
The following article illustrates our decreasing rights to grow, share and sell natural organic food products. This unbelievable intrusion on our basic human rights is being pushed forward under the guise of safety and protection. Don't be fooled.
RAIDS ARE INCREASING ON FARMS AND PRIVATE FOOD-SUPPLY CLUBS - HERE ARE 5 TIPS FOR SURVIVING ONE.
BY David Gumpert
http://www.grist.org/article/food-five-tips-for-surviving-a-raid-on-your-farm-or-food-club/PALL
When the 20 agents arrived bearing a search warrant at her Ventura County farmhouse door at 7 a.m. on a Wednesday a couple weeks back, Sharon Palmer didn't know what to say. This was the third time she was being raided in 18 months, and she had thought she was on her way to resolving the problem over labeling of her goat cheese that prompted the other two raids. (In addition to producing goat's milk, she raises cattle, pigs, and chickens, and makes the meat available via a CSA.)
But her 12-year-old daughter, Jasmine, wasn't the least bit tongue-tied. "She started back-talking to them," recalls Palmer. "She said, 'If you take my computer again, I can't do my homework.' This would be the third computer we will have lost. I still haven't gotten the computers back that they took in the previous two raids."
As part of a five-hour-plus search of her barn and home, the agents -- from the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office, Los Angeles County Sheriff, Ventura County Sheriff, and the California Department of Food and Agriculture -- took the replacement computer, along with milk she feeds her chickens and pigs.
While no one will say officially what the purpose of this latest raid was, aside from being part of an investigation in progress, what is very clear is that government raids of producers, distributors, and even consumers of nutritionally dense foods appear to be happening ever more frequently. Sometimes they are meant to counter raw dairy production, other times to challenge private food organizations over whether they should be licensed as food retailers.
The same day Sharon Palmer's farm was raided, there was a raid on Rawesome Foods, a Venice, Calif., private food club run by nutritionist and raw-food advocate Aajonus Vonderplanitz. For a membership fee of $25, consumers can purchase unpasteurized dairy products, eggs that are not only organic but unwashed, and a wide assortment of fermented vegetables and other products.
The main difference in the two raids seems to be that Palmer's raiding party was actually much smaller, about half the size of the Venice contingent: Vonderplanitz was also visited by the FBI and the FDA.
In the Rawesome raid, agents made off with several thousand dollars worth of raw honey and raw dairy products. They also shut Rawesome for failure to have a public health permit, though the size and scope of the raid suggests the government officials might have more in mind. Regardless, within hours the outlet reopened in defiance of the shutdown order.
Earlier in June, agents of the Minnesota Department of Agriculture, escorted by police and also bearing search warrants, raided and shut down Traditional Foods Warehouse, a popular food club in Minneapolis specializing in locally-produced foods. They also raided two farms suspected of illegally selling raw milk. And in a national first among such raids, agents searched a private home and made off with computers; the family's offense appears to have been that it allowed one of the raw dairy farmers to park in its driveway to distribute raw milk to area residents who had ordered it.
The Minnesota Department of Agriculture has declined comment on such raids, saying they are part of an ongoing investigation into raw milk distribution in the state in lieu of eight illnesses in May linked to raw milk.
Meanwhile, the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection has launched three raids over the last three months on the dairy farm and farm store of Vernon Hershberger, near Madison. The day after DATCP agents placed seals on his fridges storing raw dairy products in July, Hershberger cut the seals, and announced he was going to challenge the agency's contention he needs a dairy and retail license to sell his products. Obtaining such licenses would be problematic, though, since Wisconsin prohibits sale of raw milk, except "incidental" sales, and defining "incidental" has been a bone of contention for many years. In any event, Hershberger contends he sells only to consumers who contract privately for his food.
What's behind all these raids? They seem to stem from increasing concern at both the state and federal level about the spread of private food groups that have sprung up around the country in recent years -- food clubs and buying groups to provide specialized local products that are generally unavailable in groceries, like grass-fed meats, pastured eggs, fermented foods, and, in some cases, raw dairy products. Because they are private and limited to consumers who sign up for membership, these groups generally avoid obtaining retail and public health licenses required of retailers that sell to the general public. (For more on what's behind the raids, see this new post.)
In late 2008 and early 2009, the representatives of state agriculture agencies in Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan, and Illinois met via phone conferences with representatives of the FDA to map a plan for targeting raw-milk buying clubs in the Midwest. The meetings came to light after Max Kane, the owner of a Wisconsin buying club who was subpoenaed by Wisconsin authorities for the names of his customers and suppliers, obtained email accounts of the sessions via a Freedom of Information request to Wisconsin's Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection department. (Kane has since been prosecuted by Wisconsin authorities for contempt of court for failing to give up the names; his case is under appeal after he was found guilty last December.)
Now, the Midwest program seems to have gone national, and the recent spate of raids suggests a quickening pace and broadened scope. While most raids before the Midwest government meetings had been related to raw-milk distribution, some, like a December 2008 armed raid of Manna Storehouse, an Ohio food club near Cleveland, have been about licensing issues. In that raid, armed law enforcement officers held a mother and eight young children being home-schooled at gunpoint for several hours while they searched the home and food storage areas. A legal challenge to the raid by the family is still tied up in court.
The current uptick has Pete Kennedy of the Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund concerned, not only about the spreading of the raids, but about the seemingly easy willingness of judges to hand out search warrants. While the U.S. Constitution's fourth amendment suggests judges should exercise tight controls over search warrants ("no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause..."), Kennedy observes, "I haven't seen an agency turned down yet" over the last four years in requests for search warrants connected with raw milk and other food production and distribution.
Given that the targets of search warrants don't get a say in court as to whether they should be issued, legal experts and those who have been raided say the most that food producers can do is take steps to prepare themselves to weather the raids as best they can.
Here are five suggestions they offer:
Be wary of strangers who want to join your private buying group or herdshare: Before they seek out a search warrant, regulators invariably nose around and infiltrate private buying groups or raw milk herdshares to gain information on "probable cause." They'll often make up sad stories as to why they should be allowed to join. Gary Cox of the Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund recalls how an undercover agent from the New York Department of Agriculture and Markets infiltrated Meadowsweet Dairy LLC, a private organization of 120 Ithaca consumers who bought shares to gain access to raw dairy products, in 2007: "He was insistent. 'I live so far away, and I only come here so very infrequently, so can't I at least have some (milk) today, PLEEEEEEEASE, because otherwise I won't be able to get any for a long time.' Barb Smith felt sorry for him and relented. We know what the consequence was of her kindness." The consequence was an open-ended search warrant that agents used several times in late 2007 and early 2008 to confiscate product, leading up to a legal challenge to the LLC that is currently under appeal following rulings in New York state courts against Meadowsweet.
Have a video camera at the ready: Since search warrants are usually specific as to what can be searched and/or seized, a video recording of events inhibits abuses by regulators and other law enforcement personnel. Regulators and law enforcement officials definitely don't appreciate being videotaped, and sometimes will simply disconnect videos or order targeted individuals to put the videos away. According to Aajonus Vonderpanitz, in the June raid of his Rawesome Foods outlet, "They unplugged our surveillance camera to hide their actions. They threateningly refused video capture of their raid when members commenced filming."
Have a plan of action: Much like planning how your family might escape a fire, decide in advance who will handle the video camera, who will collect business cards or take down the names of all agents, and who will interact with the regulators. The regulators and police count on the element of surprise to sow confusion, and keep the targets from responding intelligently.
Read the search warrant fine print: Sometimes there are limitations on the search warrants that targets can exploit. Vernon Hershberger, the Wisconsin dairy farmer, was able to slow the regulators down because he knew the search warrant in his case likely wouldn't allow forcible entry, so when agents returned a second time, after he cut the seals on his fridges, he locked his farm store doors and they were forced to leave. They eventually returned with an amended warrant that specifically allowed them to take his computer.
Keep computer backups: In nearly all such raids, the authorities confiscate computers so they can document transactions and customer interactions. If you don't have a backup of what's on your disk, you can literally be put out of business. Moreover, it's advisable to monitor what information you keep on the computer in the farmhouse or in your food club. There's something to be said for backing up every few days onto another computer kept off-site.

LOW CHOLESTEROL EQUALS LOW IMMUNITY

Part 3: Low Blood Cholesterol Compromises Immune Function By Barry Groves

There is a substantial amount of evidence that relatively low cholesterol levels in apparently healthy individuals is associated with increased subsequent mortality from cancer. It is also associated with other, non-heart related deaths. A group at the Center for Clinical Pharmacology, University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, tested whether the effectiveness of their immune systems differed in individuals with high and low levels of blood cholesterol.[i] The low cholesterol group's cholesterol averaged 3.9 mmol/L (151 mg/dL); the high cholesterol group averaged 6.8 mmol/L (261 mg/dL). The immune systems of the men in the low cholesterol group were significantly less effective than those of the high cholesterol group. This finding was not surprising as several studies have shown that cholesterol is necessary for the proper functioning of blood cells — macrophages and lymphocytes — that form part of our immune systems. For this reason low blood cholesterol undoubtedly adversely affects our bodies' ability to fight infection. This could well be another reason why infectious diseases are becoming more prevalent in our society.
Tuberculosis (TB), a disease thought to have been conquered decades ago, is returning. It has been noticed that low levels of cholesterol are common in patients suffering from TB. TB patients with low cholesterol also have higher death rates, particularly those cases with small (military) nodules. A hospital for respiratory diseases tested whether giving TB patients high-cholesterol meals would be effective in treating their condition.[ii] They split patients into two groups. One had meals containing 800 mg of cholesterol per day; the other had 250 mg of cholesterol per day. The trial was a success. By the second week, the numbers of TB bacteria in sputum was reduced 80% in the high-cholesterol group; it was only reduced by 9% in the low-cholesterol group. High-cholesterol diets now form part of the treatment for TB.
Infections and deaths in surgical patients
Low cholesterol is also linked to increased susceptibility to infection, including development of postoperative infection,[iii] and it predicts death and adverse outcomes in hospitalised patients.[iv] While some of this could be due to illness causing lower cholesterol, it may also be that low cholesterol contributes to illness; indeed, animal studies suggest lipoproteins may serve to protect against bacterial infection-induced death.[v]
It has been suggested in cases of critical surgical illness that a low cholesterol level is more likely to lead to the development of organ failure and death.
A study of patients undergoing surgery for gastrointestinal diseases at the Universita di L'Aquila in Italy, found that 'Hypocholesterolemia [low blood cholesterol] seems to represent a significant predictive factor of morbidity and mortality in critically ill patients.'[vi] Of the patients studied, 35.1% contracted a postoperative infection. The highest incidence of postoperative septic complications (72.7%) was encountered in patients with cholesterol levels below 2.73 mmol/L (105 mg/dl). The authors say 'The results of this study seem to indicate a significant relationship between preoperative hypocholesterolemia and the incidence of septic complications after surgery. Moreover, evaluation of blood cholesterol levels before major surgery might represent a predictive factor of septic risk in the postoperative period.'
Low cholesterol levels have also been associated clinically with the development of hospital infections. A study conducted at the Department of Surgery, Weill Medical College of Cornell University, New York, set out to verify this. They found that lower levels of total cholesterol, and of LDL and HDL occurred early in the course of critical illness; this led to the development of a hospital infection; and with or without the infection, lower cholesterol was independently associated with a higher death rate.[vii] The authors conclude: 'Decreased serum cholesterol concentration is an independent predictor of mortality in critically ill surgical patients. Repletion of serum lipids is a feasible therapeutic approach for the management of critical illness.'
Many patients in hospitals have or acquire infections during or after major abdominal surgery. The Department of Surgery at the Catholic University, Rome, Italy, conducted a study to identify factors that influenced mortality in patients who are affected by such infections.[viii] The hospital records of patients who had had a variety of abdominal operations and who had acquired an infection such as peritonitis were reviewed. Checking deaths against a battery of blood measurements, the authors of the study found that low cholesterol levels and low protein levels were both 'strongly and independently associated with the outcome'.
Professor Uffe Ravnskov would not be at all surprised. He found that: 'There is much evidence that blood lipids play a key role in the immune defence system. Bacterial endotoxin and Staphylococcus aureus a-toxin bind rapidly to and become inactivated by low-density-lipoprotein (LDL).'[ix] (Staphylococcus aureus is what the 'SA' in MRSA stands for.) Ravnskov also pointed out that 'Total cholesterol is inversely associated with mortality caused by respiratory and digestive disease, the aetiologies of which are mostly infectious. Total cholesterol is also inversely associated with the risk of being admitted to hospital because of an infectious disease.' In other words, if you have low cholesterol, you are more likely to end up in hospital and more likely to contract an infection while there.

NO WONDER PASTEURIZED MILK CAUSES HEALTH PROBLEMS
Milk has been given a bad rap in recent times and one of the reasons is because it causes quite a few different health problems. A few of these conditions are asthma, allergies, lactose intolerance, colon problems....etc. Are these side effects due to the inherent nature of milk (a food that has been consumed by many cultures for thousands of years) or are they due to the adulteration of the milk by factory farm production? In the past Pasteurized milk has caused problems for me, such as stomach cramps and stuffy nose....so I stopped drinking it. When I was introduced to natural unpasteurized milk, I was a bit leary, thinking I wouldn't be able to tolerate it. However, I found that the unadulterated fresh milk totally agreed with me. It tastes delicious and retains all of its nutirtive benefits. I make my own kefir and soft cheeses from it and as a result am able to benefit from the natural enzymes and good bacteria. I am very grateful to live in a state that allows raw fresh milk to be sold. People travel from all over the state....with their children and big coolers to be able to benefit from this life giving food. They are passionate about their right to consume what mother nature has provided for us.
Don't believe the diversionary warning that cows milk is only for baby calves. You could take that type of reasoning further into ridiculousness and say that chicken eggs are not meant for any animal to eat but are only for the purpose of growing adult chickens. Cow's milk may not have the same exact structure as human mother's milk but indigenous cultures have found ways to ferment milk into yogurts, kefir and cheeses to make milk into an even healthier food. For those who even have problems with fresh cow's milk that has not been pasteurized....fermentation usually takes care of most milk intolerance problems. Let's hope that government and industry's next scam is not to make human mothers pasteurize their milk. The video below does an excellent job of explaining why raw milk is so much healthier than processed factory farm milk. To find sources of fresh milk near you, visit

THE TRUTH & LIES ABOUT SATURATED FAT
This morning I was looking for evidence that a high refined vegetable oil/low saturated fat diet may be partially responsible for our autoimmune and infection related degenerative disease pandemic we are experiencing. I've read that the Lyme spirochete metabolizes cholesterol somehow, that low cholesterol may somehow play a role in Alzheimer's disease and other forms of brain dysfunction. There have also been several very good studies done by Judith Miklossy and some by Alan McDonald that show that Alzheimer brains are often riddled with spirochetes.....lyme spirochetes and other types of spirochetes. Our brains are largely composed of cholesterol and cholesterol performs other important functions in our bodies.
Could low cholesterol diets be responsible for much of our suffering. Take notice of the yellow highlighted phrase about halfway down which I feel points to what may be one of the main reasons for our decreased immunity and susceptibility to dementia. The USDA is proposing new dietary guidelines which FURTHER reduces the amount of saturated fats in our diets. Could this be why the authorities are so confidently predictng a large increase in Alzheimer's in the future? We're not talking about just an increase in the elderly population due to aging baby boomers. We may be talking about artificially caused brain dysfunction which may be partially due to Governmental nutritional recommendations and corporate advertisng.
Of course there is much more research to do in this area and I think that people are beginning to wake up to this fact and that yes indeed the low fat diet may be one of the biggest scams in history. I found the following article by Ian McAllister to be very interesting. You may also want to check out the video.....The Oiling Of America.......in the righthand side bar at the top of this blog.
SATURATED FAT & LOW CHOLESTEROL FRAUD SCAMS AND KILLS MILLIONS
By Ian McAllister

The saturated fat and low cholesterol fraud earns the hoaxers billions of dollars each year and kills millions in America alone each year.
Lie 1. Saturated fat is bad for you so you must use unsaturated vegetable oils
Lie 2. Cholesterol is bad for you so you need a low cholesterol diet
Lie 3. Unsaturated vegetable oils are good for you
As I mentioned in my weight loss diet home page, the first recorded heart attack was in Britain in 1878. In the early 1900s Dr Dudley White (referred to as the founder of cardiology) said that he wanted to find out more about the new disease reported in European medical literature, but he had to wait until 1921 before he met his first heart attack patient.
During last century consumption of vegetable oils rose continuously, and so did the incidence of heart attacks. Now that we have got the facts out of the way, let's go back to the story of the lies.
Start of the scam
After the first world war the vegetable oil manufacturers were in trouble. Their main market was for manufacture of paints and varnishes and putty, because these all harden when exposed to Oxygen. That meant that they couldn't use them for food because they would form plaque in the blood vessels and cause heart attacks.
It would have cost the manufacturers a lot of money to buy pigs to try out the diet (the pig is the closest animal to humans as far as nutrition is concerned) but their salesmen persuaded pig farmers to buy the oils to feed to pigs. The farmers were delighted when the pigs put on weight explosively on the oil diet. That meant that they could cut down on feed costs because the pigs were slaughtered sooner. The salesmen weren't quite as pleased, because it would need fast talking to sell fattening oils to humans.
Then the farmers ran into trouble. The pigs getting a diet of unsaturated vegetable oils died of cancer or heart attacks before they could be slaughtered, even with their early obesity.
Fortunately for the manufacturers humans don't keep records of what they eat, so they can't usually associate what they have eaten with their health. So the salesmen set out to persuade humans that a diet rich in unsaturated vegetable oils was healthy.
They met high sales resistance because everyone was fond of butter, but the butter manufacturers started to centrifuge out the butter instead of churning it, resulting in a tasteless mess. So the margarine manufacturers were able to claim that "you can't tell margerine from butter" once butter had no taste.
People still took pride in using butter, so the manufacturers bribed a medical research worker to invent the cholesterol lie. Cholesterol is used widely by the body, especially by the brain. If the liver stopped making cholesterol we would rapidly become stupid. When you cut down on cholesterol in your diet your liver has to manufacture a little more, but that is easy because your liver makes a lot more cholesterol than you could possibly eat.
A couple of decades ago the man who invented the cholesterol lie admitted that he had been bribed to do so by the makers of margarine to discourage the use of butter in the diet and present margarine as a hearth healthy diet item, even though it is full of deadly trans fatty acids. It worked...
I expected the cholesterol myth to vanish overnight, but the story was suppressed by the media, and we still hear over and over again the lies about low cholesterol diets. Research workers have been trying for half a century to prove that cholesterol is bad for you but have failed, because it has to be made by your body for you to remain healthy. Your brain is half cholesterol, so if you interfere with your liver production of cholesterol you become more stupid.
Suppression of evidence
C.T. McGee tells an amusing story in his book published in 1993 "Heart Frauds: The Misapplication of High Technology in Heart Disease" Cour D'Alene, ID MediPress, p155-156. An old baboon was so much trouble that they decided to get rid of him by giving him a heart attack. They gave him only eggs to eat for a year. He still hadn't died so they killed him and examined him for cholesterol deposits in his blood vessels. There were none, so the information was suppressed.
This is typical of modern healthy diet research. If results are unfavorable to a pet theory they may appear in some obscure journal that nobody reads, but if the media take up the story they will be threatened with loss of advertising revenue.
The advantage of this lie is that if your cholesterol doesn't come down they can say that you aren't trying hard enough with your low cholesterol diet and sell you drugs to lower your cholesterol by interfering with the action of your liver. The media trumpet the results of tests showing that the drug lowered heart attacks by 0.1% but they keep quiet about cancer deaths increasing by 5% in the same experiment.
We are told that the plaque in our blood vessels is cholesterol. Well some of it is. Most of it is made from unsaturated vegetable oils in our diet, not the result of high cholesterol diets. Plaque is formed like a scab on a cut finger, to cure a breach in the skin. Unfortunately that can clog a blood vessel completely. The answer is to prevent the blood vessels being damaged in the first instance and to make sure that your diet has all the vitamins and minerals that you need to keep your blood vessels healthy and the cholesterol liquid enough to be carried round to your brain.
We are told that Eskimos don't get heart attacks, because their diet prevents blood clotting. That is true...they die of internal bleeding instead, referred to as "strokes".
Cellular damage of low cholesterol vegetable oil diet
Unsaturated oils are drying oils. That means that they harden when exposed to oxygen, whether it is in putty, or varnish, or your blood stream.
Our ancestors lived on a diet high in saturated fats. Dr Yamori reported that rats given high cholesterol and saturated fat diets had fewer strokes. Saturated fats don't produce free radicals, so antioxidants were not as necessary to our ancestors as they are in today's diets.
Most people know now that margarine is dangerous because of the trans fatty acids, but they don't realize that when they heat up any unsaturated oil they are also creating toxic products that don't happen when you use lard or butter for cooking.
The membranes round the cells in our body are mostly fat. Saturated fats are C shaped and interlock to produce a strong membrane. Unsaturated oils are straight so don't lock together, so weaker membranes are produced, more open to infection.
What is the solution
Refuse to accept the lies about saturated fats in your diet and cholesterol in your diet and polyunsaturated vegetable oils for cooking. Go back to using saturated fats in your diet. It is more healthy for your heart.
There is something even better. It is a saturated fat, but a short-chain saturated fat, not long-chain like the animal fats. The short-chain fat is used by your body in a completely different manner. You still need animal fats for all the old uses like building cell membranes, carrying fat-soluble vitamins, and building your brain, but the short-chain fats are used instead as a source of energy.
Better still, ordinary fats are used as fuel when the short-chain fats are burned for energy, so you have a healthy diet that will let you lose weight, and keep your brain and your immune system, and your heart healthy.
Coconut oil is the best short-chain oil but palm oil is also very good. I use about 100mls (7 tablespoons) of coconut oil each day, and the Filipinos have coconuts as more than 60% of their diet, but if you prefer to limit yourself to three tablespoons each day that is fine. If the only change that you make in your diet is to get rid of vegetable oils and use coconut oil instead you will lose weight.
As usual the less foods are processed, the better they are for you, so if you can get good fresh coconuts they are much better than oil. However the nuts I buy in my supermarket are mostly moldy and I have to throw them out.
The saturated fat and low cholesterol fraud is probably more deadly than all the others, because heart attacks, cancer, and strokes are the greatest killers after medical errors.
But conventional medicine pulls out all the stop with the next lie, making you feel guilty for the death of a loved one.

NEW STUDY LINKS AUTISM TO VACCINES
http://www.ageofautism.com/2010/07/new-study-shows-vaccines-cause-brain-changes-found-in-autism.html
New Study Shows Vaccines Cause Brain Changes Found in Autism
By Dan Olmsted and Mark Blaxill
Abnormal brain growth and function are features of autism, an increasingly common developmental disorder that now affects 1 in 60 boys in the US. Now researchers from the University of Pittsburgh and Thoughtful House Center for Children in Austin, Texas, have found remarkably similar brain changes to those seen in autism in infant monkeys receiving the vaccine schedule used in the 1990’s that contained the mercury-based preservative thimerosal.
The group’s findings were published yesterday in the journal Acta Neurobiologiae Experimentalis. They used scanning techniques that assessed both brain growth and brain function in the same animals over time. The research team was able to see differences in the way the brains of vaccinated and unvaccinated animals developed. Scans were performed before and after the administration of primary MMR and DTaP/Hib boosters that were given at the human equivalent of 12 months of age.
Throughout the study period, vaccinated animals showed an increase in total brain volume – a feature of the brain in many young children with autism - when compared with unvaccinated animals. However, a specific part of the brain associated with emotional responses that is thought to be important in autism, the amygdala, did not show abnormalities until after the 12-month vaccines had been given. In addition, after the 12-month vaccines only, the functional brain scans showed significant differences between vaccinated and unvaccinated groups. These functional scans looked at the activity of receptors for morphine-like compounds (opioids) that may play a role in the brain of children affected by autism. Vaccine administration was associated with an increase in opioid binding activity in the amygdala compared with a decrease in the unvaccinated group.
The results indicate that multiple vaccine exposures during the previous 3-4 months may have had a significant impact on brain growth and development in ways that are consistent with the published data on autism. For the amygdala, the novel findings of abnormal growth and function appear to be a function of more recent vaccine exposures - the 12-month primary MMR vaccine and the DTaP and Hib boosters.
In an accompanying editorial Dr. Kris Turlejski, the Editor-in-Chief, described the findings as “alarming”, “support[ing] the possibility that there is a link between early immunization and the etiology of autism.”
In the same primate model, the research team has already identified delayed acquisition of vital brainstem reflexes in infants exposed to the thimerosal-containing hepatitis B vaccine on the first day of life, compared with unvaccinated animals. A larger, second phase study is currently underway to see if these findings can be replicated.
Dr. Andrew Wakefield, who is not a listed author but whose support in the design of the study is acknowledged, said “I hope the model will not only provide important insights into the origins of autism, but also ways of safely testing possible new autism treatments and vaccines.”

A MUST READ.... IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR HEALTH
Trick and Treat : How ‘Healthy Eating’ Is Making Us ILL
By Barry Groves
It is becoming increasingly obvious that despite modern dietary advice, the incidence of degenerative disease is rising precipitously. Chronic illness, in its many different forms, has become so prevalent that Generation X and even their Baby Boomer parents are beginning to view this alarming trend as normal. It seems that we are all so busy flitting from one medical specialist to another that no one has a chance to step back and evaluate the predicament we are in. This distressing situation of increasing frailty and disease should be a signal for us to examine the very foundation of mainstream nutritional guidelines. The timing of this book review happens to coincide with the updating of the USDA Food Pyramid. The general advice has been to increase grains, fruits and vegetables and to decrease the consumption of protein and fat. The proposed 2010 USDA recommendations reinforce and extend this basic advice of increasing starch in the diet while lowering the intake of fat and protein. Could the exponential rise in the incidence of diabetes be related to the USDA recommendations?
Just when I begin to think that I have now read all the crucial information there is to read concerning nutrition, another book comes along that fascinates, educates and intrigues me. Trick and Treat is one of those books. I couldn’t put it down. The author, Barry Groves takes the increase in degenerative disease very seriously. He does an amazing job of aiming his laser pointer at the very institutions and nutritional concepts that he feels are responsible for the world’s declining health. This book is so packed with helpful information that it is difficult to know where to begin. Perhaps the limerick from page 36 can summarize the main emphasis of this book.
“Any doctor today must have stealth
As he deals with his patients’ ill health
Let me tell you my friend,
What goes on in the end
Is a State-Sanctioned transfer of wealth”
The only way we can remedy a problem is by understanding its origins. I feel that Barry Groves does an excellent job of communicating to us what he believes is the foundation of the world’s growing health crisis. He places much of the blame on the pharmaceutical companies, the processed food corporations, government health agencies, and other facets of the health industry. Groves shows us how money, power and control are acquired through presenting false and harmful nutritional recommendations to the public as fact. He goes on to demonstrate how this false nutritional information causes disease, which the corporations and related government agencies then profit from. He cautions us not to place too much blame of the doctors because Groves feels that many doctors are unwitting pawns in this underhanded scheme. Many physicians believe that what they are being taught by the pharmaceutical companies is truth. In fact…..the drug companies are the main source of information and play a very large role in the education of doctors. The medical industry funds the universities, teaches the doctors at medical conferences and through drug representatives. Very often the medical journal studies are biased towards the companies which fund them.
In chapter one the author covers what I feel is an extremely important topic……astroturfing. I was very interested in this section as I have witnessed this strategy being used in Lyme disease support/activism groups, cancer support groups, M.S support groups….etc. and I feel it is imperative for patients to be aware of this tactic so as not to be influenced and harmed by it. Groves explains astroturfing on page 35. “So, if you can’t trust your doctor as an impartial source, who can you turn to? One answer might seem to be an independent patient support group that supplies helpful information and advice on specific disease. Sorry, that probably won’t help either: these groups are also targeted by the drug companies. They call it ‘astroturfing’.
The Ekbom Support Group which helps advise people with restless leg syndrome was discovered to have been ‘astroturfed’ by Glaxo-Smithkline (GSK), the manufacturer of Adartrel, a drug for restless leg syndrome. GSK helped Ekbom set up its website and Ekbom was found to be actively promoting Adartrel. This underhanded trick might never have come to light if the website hadn’t started to promote the drug some eight months before it had been approved. The British Medical Journal investigated 28 other support groups. They found that 27 were being funded by drug companies, and were presenting information that was, at best, partial. The journal found that they all seemed to be pushing specific drugs to treat conditions, while downplaying the risks.”
Astroturfing does not just involve drug companies. Examine a support group or activism group you may be interested in and also check for ties to blood testing companies, research institutions and or medical equipment providers. I have found that the groups which are controlled in this manner very rarely focus on true nutritional solutions.
Groves doesn’t just dwell on the causes and problems. At the same time that he is warning us and exposing the deceit, he is also educating us concerning what we can do to become healthier. Much of his diet information coincides with that of Dr. Price and Dr. Pottenger. Some of the subjects he covers in this amazing book are: 1. Soy products, fluoride and how they affect the thyroid gland. 2. The phony war on salt. 3. Important information on sunlight exposure. 4. Moderate exercise versus extreme exercise. 5. The importance of a low carbohydrate high fat diet. 6. Arthritis 7. Valuable information on obesity and heart disease. 8. How diet affects the stomach and the brain 9. An informative chapter on diabetes….and much more. Tick and Treat is a treasure- trove of helpful information
Near the end of the book the author talks more about solutions and gives us hope that people are beginning to wake up and how the backlash has begun. He emphasizes the dangers of monopolies and how monopolies inevitably use their power to gain even more power and control. Groves tells us “ Professional associations, standard setting bodies, and individual institutions around the world are beginning to disentangle themselves from some of the unhealthy flows of money and influence. These are indications of a desire on the part of concerned doctors to redefine fundamentally the relationships between doctors and drug companies.”
At the end, Groves reminds us that ultimately we are responsible for our own health. Part of our suffering has been due to our willingness to give this responsibility over to others….doctors, government and corporations. Now is the time to educate ourselves…to do our own research and to question any information delivered to us by the above sources. Groves encourages us and informs us that we do have the power to change our unfortunate circumstances. The author’s parting words are….. “ Price found that it took only one generation of eating such food (processed) to destroy these peoples’ health and immunity. My hope is that it will take only one generation to restore it.”
I truly loved this book
and would recommend it to anyone who wants to be enlightened and empowered.

ARE USDA GUIDELINES DANGEROUS?
Scientists Claim: USDA Guidelines Cause Obesity, Heart Disease, Diabetes

I made my comments on the USDA diet plan (which is causing obesity) in an earlier post. I said the USDA food pyramid is mainly a grand government-backed marketing scheme for factory food for the big food corporations. Today I will say it seems awfully similar to the marketing by HHS/CDC and their pharmaceutical company partners for all these vaccinations being forced on babies and toddlers. There is an apparent correlation between the two. Now here is what came out in a news release today.–Augie

CRITICS ASSAIL USDA DIETARY GUIDELINES
High-Carb, Low-Fat Diets Cause Obesity, Heart Disease, Diabetes, Scientists Claim
Monday, July 12, 2010–WASHINGTON, D.C.–The USDA Dietary Guidelines are a leading cause of the American health and obesity crisis, according to scientists, nutritionists and consumers who testified last Thursday at a USDA public hearing on the report of the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee (DGAC). Dissenters argued that the proposed 2010 revisions to the Dietary Guidelines are worse, and will not prevent obesity and will only increase degenerative disease in the U.S.
Those testifying against the Guidelines focused on the Committee’s misuse of scientific data to justify a high-carbohydrate, low-fat diet. Dr. Jeff Volek, scientist and academic researcher at the University of Connecticut, noted that the DGAC report ignored scientific studies showing the effectiveness of low carbohydrate diets for weight loss. “Americans deserve to have official support for the low-carb dietary option,” he said.
“I have followed the work of the DGAC all the way through this process as an academic project. I have dug into their nutrition evidence library,” said Adele Hite, a graduate student in nutrition and public health at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. “Time after time, the scientific evidence the DGAC cited to oppose low-carb diets actually says the exact opposite of the Committee’s conclusions.” Hite testified to losing sixty pounds on a low-carbohydrate diet.
Morton Satin of the Salt Institute sharply criticized the Committee’s recommendation to reduce sodium consumption to 1500 mg per day. “The Committee is suggesting that Americans consume less than 4 grams of salt per day. No modern society consumes so little salt, making this proposal nothing less than a call for an uncontrolled experiment on more than 300 million Americans.” Satin provided references showing the critical role of salt in digestion, blood pressure regulation and brain development.
Four of the dissenters presented the views of the Nutrition and Metabolism Society, a group of nutrition researchers and medical professionals who have studied the benefits of a low-carbohydrate diet for weight loss, insulin regulation and protection against chronic disease. “We expected the new guidelines to recognize current research that vindicates saturated fats as a cause of heart disease and weight gain, and to acknowledge the demonstrated benefits of lower carbohydrate diets,” said Dr. Richard Feinman of Downstate University, New York.
In response to the DGAC report, the Nutrition and Metabolism Society recently launched the Committee for a Healthy Nation (CHN). “The CHN is a working coalition of professionals who oppose the low-fat, plant-based thrust of the DGAC report. We feel strongly that the scientific evidence omitted from or misrepresented by their report must be considered in the final outcome,” said Feinman.
“Five years ago, I was the lone voice testifying against the guidelines,” said Sally Fallon Morell, president of the Weston A. Price Foundation and member of the CHN. “This year I was happy to be joined by members of the medical and research community in opposition to USDA’s unscientific prescription.” Fallon Morell’s testimony focused on nutrient deficiencies common in those following low-fat diets.
Dr. Feinman challenged the DGAC panel to an open public debate on the scientific evidence underpinning the Guidelines. “Our nation’s citizens need a range of dietary options to choose from, not a one-size-fits-all approach. We must allow for lifestyle, activity levels and metabolism as factors in choosing an optimal diet for each individual.”

To learn more about how we have been deceived and made ill by false dietary information.....and what REAL foods our bodies need to maintain optimal physical and mental health, I highly recommend the following 2 books. The information in these two books is presented in a clear, easy to read manner. I was very impressed with both of them.If we want to improve our health and society as a whole, our bodies need to be healthy and our brains need to be able to think rationally.Learn what the REAL healthy fats are and what they can do for you. The food guidelines promoted by Officialdom are being used to keep us physically ill and mentally unfit.Depression, anxiety...etc can most definitely be a result of a diet too high in carbohydrates and too low in fat and protein. The drug companies are then more than happy to provide antidepressants and other brain altering drugs. Do yourself and society a favor and read these two books......and then let me know what you think of the ideas presented in them.

Is there a deliberate effort by the government to dumb down the masses? The statement is hard to prove but there exists a great amount of data proving that the ruling elite not only tolerates, but effectively introduces policies that have a detrimental effect on the physical and mental health of the population. This series of articles looks at the many ways the modern man is being dumbed down. Part I looks at the poisons found in everyday foods, beverages and medications.
The theme of dumbing-down and dehumanizing the masses are often discussed in articles on The Vigilant Citizen. The presence of those concepts in popular culture are, however, only the outward and symbolic expression of the profound transformation happening in our society. Scientific data has been proving for years that governments around the world are tolerating the selling of many products which have a direct and negative effect on cognitive and physical health. As we will see in this article many everyday products cause brain damage, impaired judgment and even a lower IQ.
Is a dumber population something that is desired by the elite? Hitler once said “How fortunate for the leaders that men do not think.” An educated population knows its rights, understands the issues and takes action when it does not approve of what is going on. Judging by the incredible amount of data available on the subject, it seems that the elite want the exact opposite: an unhealthy, frightened, confused and sedated population. We will look at the effects of medication, pesticides, fluoride and aspartame on the human body and how those products are being pushed by people from inside the power structure.
