Salt and water are nature's most versatile healers. Without these substances we would not be alive. Dr. Batmanghelidj has written a book called ABC of Asthma, Allergies and Lupus: Eradicate Asthma - Now! which talks about the importance of these two substances in healing asthma and other conditions. Many people, including myself, have found that increasing water intake along with the use of a healthy whole form of salt, can improve and or eliminate many health problems. In his book, Dr. B explains how histamine release is a signal to the body. Here is a quote. " In dehydration, histamine production and its activity increase greatly. In this phase of its activity, histamine also generates the emergency thirst signals and its indicators of its water rationing program that is in operation. Increased histamine release in the lungs causes the spasm of the bronchioles. This natural spasmodic action of histamine on the bronchiole tubes is part of the design of the body to conserve water that would normally evaporate during breathing. The winter steam or fog that you see when you breathe out in cold weather is water that is leaving your lungs as you breathe." This is an example of a symptom (wheezing) being for the purpose of letting us know what our bodies need. Instead of trying to suppress histamine production with anithistamine drugs or even natural anithistamines.... we should address the reason the histamine is being produced in the first place. Dr B goes on to talk more about how much water we can lose simply through breathing and why it is necessary to replace this vital fluid. He claims that coffee, tea, and sodas do not count as fluid because the caffeine in these drinks dehydrates rather than hydrates us.
Concerning the saltpipes in the photos above.....they can be very effective in alleviating and preventing wheezing and coughing...however, they are more of a preventative than they are an emergency aid. When I use the salt inhaler consistently and drink enough water, I pretty much don't have to use my inhaler. I have to admit that it is more convenient to use the medicated inhaler so I am not as faithful as I could be with the salt inhaler. This is my testimony from the Cisca Salt Pipe Website.
Marjorie Tietjen; Lyme Disease patient, activist / write ( E-mail : daystar1952@yahoo.com) (10/12/05)"I just want to express my gratitude for the Cisca Salt Pipe. I have chronic moderate asthma. This has been a problem for at least 25 years. I don't use steroids but I use my albuterol inhaler at least 6 times a day. I recieved my salt pipe only 4 days ago and was going to wait longer to share my experience but I am so amazed with the results that I couldn't wait any longer . The second day of use I went 24 hours without using my inhaler. Then I went outside and the cold dry air triggered symptoms so I did end up using my medical inhaler. To make a long story short, I have only used the albuterol 3 times since I recieved the salt pipe. Normally it would have been used at least 18 times. It is such a wonderful feeling to have a clear nose ( the salt pipe also drains my sinuses) and not to have to spray so many awful tasting chemicals into my lungs.I have a feeling that I will continue to improve. I am completely sold on this product and want to try to make it more available in the U.S."
If you are interested in a saltpipe, you can get one from the Cisca Website above or from Amazon...The Original Aroma Therapipe, Salt Pipe, Respiratory and Asthma Aid
There are also other brands you can try. I've only tried the Cisca saltpipe. Some people have said that they like the other brands that you can refill. The Cisca Pipe is not refillable but does last for about 5 years. I love it's ergonomic design (very pleasant to hold) and if other family members also have asthma, the inhalers come color coded so that each family member can have their own saltpipe for hygenic purposes.
Evidently our adrenal glands play a very large role in the control of allergies and asthma. I have noticed that in the past when I have been on a very low carb diet for candida control...that my asthma disappeared...along with alot of other symptoms. I am slowly trying to get back to the low carb way of eating as I am becoming more and more convinced it is what our bodies are designed for. I have read the book
Adrenal Fatigue: The 21st Century Stress Syndrome several times and bought one for my son who has stress and allergy problems. The more faithfully I stick to the low carb way of eating , the more I notice that I have less allergies, asthma is improved, I have more stamina and can think more clearly. Our modern diets of refined carbohydrates stress our adrenal glands, which in turn affect our thyroid gland....and other parts of the body. Everything is interconnected so that when one begins to cut out the stressors, our body recovers and can function as it is supposed to.
There are many different books which talk about natural ways to heal asthma. Some focus on breathing techniques....some on water and salt and others concentrate more on diet. I think its a good idea to incorporate a holistic approach which includes diiferent ways of supporting the body's natural protective systems. Usually when we do this and treat the body as a whole, we are suprised at the added benefits Often symptoms we are not even targeting disappear when we support the whole body.
There seems to be a lot of information about salt lately that tells the good side of salt. I'm glad to see this article. I learned a lot from it.
ReplyDeleteYes...there is much misinformation out there about salt. We need salt. However, the salt should be a natural whole form of salt, such as sea salt or himalayan salt which still contains the natural inherent minerals. We should avoid refined tabel salt (sodium chloride)
